Serbia moved up three places on the Global Innovation Index

The Global Innovation Index, a list that ranks countries according to their level of innovation, has been following the changes for the tenth year in a row on a world-wide innovation scene. This year, Serbia’s progress has been noted. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) participates in the establishment of the list with two business schools Johnson at Cornell University and ISEAD.

Serbia moved from the 65th to the 62nd position on the annual ranking of the Global Innovation Index for 2017.

On the United Nations (UN) list, which ranks 128 countries in the world, Serbia has made progress in comparison with last year’s 65th place, while among the seven main criteria for evaluation, the best rated is area of institutions (50th place), and the weakest is the market (99th place).

In the field of knowledge and technological output, it occupies the 53rd place, and in the human capital and research sector occupies the 54th position.

Developing countries, according to the survey, are approaching the most innovative countries in the world, although Western countries, led by Switzerland, still occupy leading positions. Switzerland is again the most innovative country in the world in 2017, followed by Sweden, the Netherlands, the United States, Britain, Denmark, Singapore, Finland, Germany and Ireland.

In that ranking, China climbed three positions to 22nd place, well ahead of other developing countries.

“Switzerland won the gold medal again for the seventh year in a row, which is a truly incredible result,” said Fransis Gary, director of the UN World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) at a news conference.
