24 Apr EVEN CHEESE IS WELL SAVED IN PIROT – CITIZENS OF PIROT PROTECTED THEIR DELICACY
Famous for their thoughtful lifestyle and caution when it comes to money, it is not surprising that citizens of Pirot are users of geographical indication protection*.
Dairy school from Pirot recently became registered user of this protection. For decades, this school has been a place where future chefs learn skills of making famous hard cheese. They were often faced with forgery and abuse of hard cheese name “pirotski”, which further damaged the reputation of this specialty. They don’t have to worry about this anymore, because from recently every slice of this cheese in retail must have a bar-code and stamp, which proves geographical origin and manufacture process.
The certification is issued by authorized body and The Intellectual Property office, Republic of Serbia.
*Geographical indication is an indication identifying certain goods as goods originating from the territory of a certain country, region or locality of that territory, where certain quality, reputation or other characteristics of the goods can essentially be attributed to its geographical origin.
