Most often, projects resulting from academic research demand further development and additional funding before entering the market, but extra funding can be obtained only for projects based on protectable intellectual property.
To ensure that things run smoothly, it’s best that you present your idea to CTT UB professionals as soon as possible, even if it’s still a “work in progress”.

The sooner you present us your work, the better we can assist you with determining the next steps. This is crucial, especially if you want your idea, innovation, invention or research results to be protected, since any public disclosure can jeopardize your patent application.
FURTHER STEPS IN THE PROCESS
Further steps depend on the technology readiness level of your innovation, idea or invention. Together with a TT manager at CTT UB, you will assess your idea/invention from different angles to ensure a thorough review of the opportunities and the potential pitfalls.
Here are some of the questions that CTTUB experts will answer together with you:
- Are there practical applications of your work? If so, in which areas/sectors?
- Is there a current problem that your idea, innovation or invention can solve
- Is there anything distinctive about your innovation, idea or invention?
- Is there a market or target group for your product?
- Is your idea truly innovative or inventive in a given research field?
- What are the potential profits?
- Is there a third party who is already interested in your work?
- Is further research needed?
- Should your idea, innovation or invention be protected?
- How do you see your role in the commercialization process?
Depending on the answers, together we will determine the next steps – market research, feasibility study, meetings with potential partners or clients, prototyping, building proof of concept, etc.
